We are in the process of designing a series of rest pavilions, to be located within the dunal landscape of the Gold Coast Spit. Each pavilion comprises a mosaic-tiled seat-back shell, which supports a powdercoated steel trellis / shading device. Every structure comprises 3 main prefabricated components, which can be quickly erected in their respective locations. This project evolved out of an earlier competition entry for the design of four beachside shelters. These precast concrete elements for this earlier design were also clad in mosaic tiles. Beneath each shell is a built-in concrete seat which retains a graded planter bed. Fixed to the back of this seat are an array of steel posts supporting a series of acid-etched glass panels.
