Our clients sought a compact open-plan two level house for their east-facing waterfront block near Fraser Island, two hours’ drive north of Brisbane. The generative idea for the house was to have a living and dining area enclosed by 4 sets of sliding doors at right-angles to one another. These can be opened to connect with two adjacent partially roofed courtyard gardens, to create a large indoor-outdoor double-height space. A bridge link traverses this volume, which leads to the first floor master bedroom from the main stair. As with several other JBA houses there is a private home-office or guest accommodation space accessed separately from the main house.
